UpStage Artists is excited to announce auditions for their first show of the upcoming 2024 season, Lorraine Hansberry's Award Winning A Raisin In The Sun! Auditions will take place on December 4 and 6, 2023 at 7 pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville, MD 20705.
Hansberry’s play explores the themes of family and dreams as the characters struggle to deal with the oppressive circumstances in their lives. Set in the late 1950’s the play is about the Youngers, an African American family living on the south side of Chicago. Every member of the family has a dream. They all struggle to attain those dreams and the dreams are explored in this powerful show. There is a role for an African American Boy, ages 10-14. Rehearsals begin on Monday, January 8 and take place 3 times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Tech Week begins February 18 and show dates are February 23, 24, 25, March 1, 2, 3.
