Senator Jim Rosapepe Connects with US Secretary of Agriculture at Democratic National Convention

I was glad to meet US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He’s been a champion of rural America, organic agriculture, and the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center right here in District 21, where there are more PhD farmers than anywhere else in America!

 

Beltsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Open House is Set for Oct. 5

On Saturday, October 5, from 12 to 4 p.m., the volunteer fire department in Beltsville will host its annual open house at 4911 Prince George’s Avenue. This community event is free and offers fun for the entire family. Meet your volunteer firefighters and learn how the volunteer fire department operates. There will be free food, local vendors, face painting, a bounce house and more.

 

Beltsville Student Xiomora Garcia was awarded a scholarship from District 21 and will attend the University of Maryland Global Campus and major in Management of Information Systems and Services.

District 21 Awards Scholarships to Beltsville Students

Delegates Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, Mary Lehman, and I award college scholarships to Beltsville students each year. We are happy to highlight our scholarship recipients and wish them a successful academic year. One outstanding Beltsville student is Xiomara Garcia, who will attend the University of Maryland Global Campus and major in Management of Information Systems and Services.

 

MD Health Department's community clinics offer free flu shots

Protect yourself and your family from the flu this season. The Health Department's community clinics are open to All county residents. No appointments required. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Injectable flu vaccine will be available to anyone age 6 months and older at Cheverly Health Center: Prince George’s County Health Department 3003 Hospital Drive, Room 2114, Cheverly, MD 20785. Open Monday - Friday, 9 am - 3 pm.

Maryland Dept. of Aging invites your feedback on the state’s multisector plan for aging

The Maryland Department of Aging is working to ensure that all older adults lead healthy, financially secure, socially connected, and purposeful lives. To that end, our state is developing a multisector plan for aging, Longevity Ready Maryland (LRM), a blueprint for government, private, and nonprofit sectors to positively transform norms, systems, programs, and services to build a thriving aging society and invite you to be part of the process. They are providing opportunities to attend live streams or watch recorded videos of the LRM workgroup meetings. They also invite you to participate in ​​the January 2025​ public comment period through online​ and in-person​ Town Hall meeting​s.
