The Latest News from Senator Rosapepe's Office: February 2023

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

My wife Sheilah and I were happy to see so many Beltsville neighbors at our 2023 Winter Brunch on last month. We were joined by US Congressman Glenn Ivey, who now represents all of Beltsville.

Maryland 2023 General Assembly is in session

Top priorities include:

● Investing the state budget surplus prudently

● Putties funds in the state’s Rainy-Day Fund to protect public services in a future recession

● Protect state funding for roads, schools, environmental protection and public safety

● Expanding apprenticeship opportunities for young people to help employee labor skills

You can track and view this year’s legislation on the Maryland General Assembly website and if you need anything from my office, feel free to call or email me and my staff at 410-841-3141 or jim.rosapepe@senate.state.md.us

Help for neighbors hit by extreme weather

Our current emergency funding law requires a State of Emergency by the Governor before moving through a convoluted process to get money out the door. I’m sponsoring legislation to create a $20 million dollar fund in the Department of Emergency Management that can be quickly deployed in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor or a county leader.

Maryland Veterans Service Animal Program open for 2023 grant applications

Grant applications will be accepted through February 13 with awards between $10,000-$25,000 going to eligible organizations who train service and support dogs or who provide equine therapy to veterans.
