The Latest News from Senator Rosapepe's Office: April 2021

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

COVID Vaccinations for Beltsville residents

As you know, COVID-19 vaccines are in short supply and high demand. More doses are becoming available, with the first ones going to health care workers and nursing home residents. As production ramps up, more and more people will get vaccines, but the timing remains unclear. The Maryland Health Department sets priorities as long as supply is limited. And we have asked them to keep us and the public up to date on access.

Prince George's County has now entered Phase 1b, meaning vaccines are becoming available for adults ages 75 and up, assisted living (including staff and residents of homeless shelters), and educators (teachers and support staff, childcare workers).

The state has set up a statewide pre-Registration system for mass vaccination: https://onestop.md.gov/preregistration

Reminder: Scholarships to College

Each Senator and Delegate is allocated funds for scholarships to students in our district who attend Maryland colleges. There are so many deserving students in Beltsville. With college tuition a struggle for many families, we need to do everything we can to help hardworking students get a good education. We can't help everyone with Senatorial Scholarships, but we can certainly help some.

To apply online for a 2020-2021 Senate scholarship, students should visit www.21stDistrictDelegation.com/college-scholarships, and the deadline to apply is Friday, July 9. A separate Delegate scholarship application from Delegates Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, and Mary Lehman is on that page as well with a Thursday, April 2 deadline. Information on other financial aid for Maryland college students can be found at www.mhec.state.md.us.
