Shirey, Kenneth Lewis
Kenneth Lewis Shirey (Ken) passed away suddenly on February 16, 2021, at the age of 70. Ken was born in Oxford, England, while his family was stationed there but spent the majority of his childhood in Beltsville. He graduated from High Point High School in 1968, was proud that he had visited all 50 states, and enjoyed a wide variety of music throughout his life. Most of his career was spent in human relations; however, after his retirement and relocation to PA, he helped manage Arts Quest, an art glass studio. He was exceptionally skilled in organizing and structuring the business side of the studio, but his natural warmth and ability to connect with people are the traits he will be most remembered for. He mentored numerous young people in glass blowing, and the studio has established a Shirey Glass Education Fund in his honor.
Ken is survived by two brothers, Bob and Bill; a sister, Gail; two sisters-in-law, Pam and Nancy; three nieces, a nephew, two great nieces, and two great nephews. We are changed now not because he left us but because he touched us.
