Barbara Ann Wood Messersmith, born on May 8, 1940 in Beltsville, MD to Roy and Ethyl
Wood passed away on May 4, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and laugher.
For over 67 years she shared a journey with her beloved husband, Ellsworth. Together they
cultivated a family filled with warmth, delicious meals, and plenty of memorable moments.
Barbara was a very generous woman who was a proud member of the lady’s auxiliary for many
years. As a breast cancer survivor, she approached life with a brave and determined spirit.
Barbara had a quiet, adventurous side that had her traveling the world with Ellsworth and
friends.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ellsworth, son Allen (Gina), adopted son David (Cindy)
Kasza, grandchildren Amy (Larry) Williams, Rebecca (Matthew) Rogers, Joe (Brie)
Messersmith, Danny Atkins, Amanda (Lee) Foster, Alex & Ryan Kasza, great grandchildren
Bryce & Ryleigh Williams, Taylor, Kaitlyn & Makenzie Rogers, Brayden Messersmith, Nichole
Atkins and her sister Peggy (Chuck).
She was preceded in death by daughter Diana, son Wayne (Mary) and parents Roy and Ethyl
Wood.
Barbara was loved by many. She will be missed, and the memories of her will be cherished for
many years to come.
