Obituary: Humphrey, Robert "Bob"


On Monday, September 23, 2024, Robert Humphrey passed away at the age of 97 after many health battles in recent years. He was born in 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Philippines and returned home 8/13/1946. He came home to his future wife, Doris. After returning home, he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement. Doris and Bob had 3 children and enjoyed taking them camping and on trips to Disney World for many years. Later on, they loved to frequent Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Branson, Missouri. His hobbies included camping, golfing, and fishing. He liked to take the occasional trip to Las Vegas. Bob and Doris were dedicated parishioners of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Beltsville in which they were married in 1948. He is predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Doris, as well as his parents, Thomas and Ruth, and his brothers, Bill and George. He is survived by his children Gary W. (Loriann), Donald M. (Lynn), and Sherry Ventura (Wilson). In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Shahn (Molly), Justin, Donny Jr. (Ashlie), and Travis. He also has two great-grandchildren, Addie and Jack. He also has many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's name to The Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of the Chesapeake or Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

His service was held at Borgwardt's Funeral Home in Beltsville, MD on Monday, September 30, with a viewing from 11am-12pm, followed by Military Honors, and then, the funeral. Burial took place in Scaggsville right after the funeral.
