Opioid Overdose Response Training by Our Prince George’s County Police Department Division VI
The Prince George’s Police Department is offering free Overdose Response (Naloxone) Training. Residents can sign up for naloxone training by calling (301)-583-5920 or emailing savealife@co.pg.md.us. Anyone 18 years or older can attend, and appointments are available Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Those who participate in the training will also receive a free naloxone kit.
Overdose Response (Naloxone) Training teaches residents to learn how to identify an opioid overdose and administer naloxone, potentially saving lives. Naloxone is the proper name for the brand NARCAN®. It is a life-saving medication that can restore breathing to an incapacitated person who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Opioids are strong painkillers, which include prescription medications such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, fentanyl, and methadone, and illegal drugs such as heroin. Six officers within Beltsville Division VI Police are certified instructors for the Overdose Response Training. Outside Division VI, you can also get free naloxone training from the Prince George’s County Health Department via Zoom.
Naloxone is now available without a prescription at Maryland Pharmacies. Maryland Department of Health Center for Harm Reduction Services authorizes governmental and community-based organizations to Overdose Response Programs, which allows them to provide overdose education and free naloxone to their communities. Certain residents in Maryland counties may be eligible to receive free naloxone delivered to their homes. Please share this information with your friends and family, even outside of Beltsville. Even if no one in your household uses or abuses opioids, we encourage you to take part in this life-saving training.
