Come to Join Scouting Night, Sunday, September 17th at 6 p.m.

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Visit Scout Troop 1033 at “Join Scouting Night” on Sunday, September 17th at 6 pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church (11416 Cedar Lane). There will be games and activities, a fire building competition, and s’mores. Everyone is welcome, and boys and girls ages 10-17 will be invited to try their hand at the water-balloon catapult. Familias hispanohablantes bienvenidas!

For more than one hundred years, Scouting has been the best place for young people to have outdoor adventures like rock climbing, camping, whitewater rafting, and hiking, to explore new skills like fire building, archery, astronomy, and robotics, to learn about leadership and teamwork, and to understand what it means to be an American. Scouts build confidence, special skills, and lifelong friendships.

Dedicated Scouts can earn the Eagle Award, the highest rank in scouting. Famous Eagle Scouts include Astronaut Neil Armstrong, President Gerald Ford, and Movie Director Steve Spielberg. Being an Eagle Scout is great for college applications and essays and scholarships are available to Eagle Scouts. Eagle Scouts from Troop 1033 are currently attending Georgetown University and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Scout Troop 1033 has been part of Beltsville for more than sixty years. Each year Troop 1033 spends a week at sleep-away summer camp on Chesapeake Bay where Scouts can try sailing, fishing, sculpture, outdoor cooking, pottery, water-skiing, leatherworking, and dozens of other activities. Every year, Troop 1033 collects non-perishable food through the nationwide “Scouting For Food” program. Donations collected by Troop 1033 go to the food banks at St. Joseph’s Church and Emmanuel United Methodist Church, right here in Beltsville. Scouts who participate in Troop service projects like Scouting for Food will complete their high-school-required service hours while having fun with their friends and helping their community. Every year, Scouts decide which activities they want to do, like rock-climbing, kayaking, or camping.
