College Park, MD, October 22, 2024 - The City of College has proclaimed Northwest Chinese as College Park’s 2024 Business of the Year award winner during the October 22 Mayor and City Council meeting. A committee consisting of four Councilmembers selected the restaurant out of the seven finalists based on the criteria from the award program’s guidelines. “We are thrilled to present this award to Northwest Chinese;” said Mayor Fazlul Kabir, “the acclaimed restaurant and its delicious food has helped make College Park a destination for restaurant goers and foodies.”
Opened in 2015 by chef-owner Hua Wang, the restaurant specializes in dishes from the Shanxi province in China that are hard to find outside of the region. Northwest Chinese has been regularly featured and named a top restaurant in numerous publications including The Washington Post, Washingtonian, and Bon Appétit.
The restaurant was selected as the winner based on its high ratings and positive reviews, notoriety in the local food scene, engagement and participation in community events (like College Park Day), sustainable practices, and investment in our community. Ms. Wang’s efforts have helped make the City of College Park a more vibrant and diverse place to live.
In February 2025, Ms. Wang will open a new eatery at City Hall. Called Li Chun Café, the restaurant will feature dishes from her hometown of Shenyang City in Northeast China, including bing, a type of Chinese flatbread, rice dishes, traditional tea, and tea snacks.
Congratulations to Northwest Chinese on winning this year’s award. The application period for the 2025 Business of the Year award will begin May 1, 2025 and will be announced on the City’s website. For details, please visit www.collegeparkmd.gov.
