Attorney Tonya Sweat Files For County Executive Special Election

Attorney Moisette “Tonya” Sweat is running to replace Angela Alsobrooks as County Executive. She is the attorney for the volunteers at the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Accokeek, Maryland – Today, Attorney Moisette “Tonya” Sweat filed her Certificate of Candidacy in the special election for County Executive of Prince George’s County, Maryland. After filing, Tonya stated, This is a crucial time for one of a great place to live in the United States, Prince George’s County, Maryland. There are many positives in our county, which is why, in 2011, my husband and I chose to move and raise our family here. Prince George's County is home to both the second largest school district in Maryland and the Washington Commanders. The County has opportunities for improvement and needs strong leadership to meet present challenges. The rise in crime, persistent lag in education, a $150-180 million budget deficit, and uncertainty of future federal resources demand new leadership and immediate action. I might be a fresh face in local politics, but I am most certainly not new to Prince George's County. The County can no longer count on the State and federal governments to supplement the real estate taxes that are its main source of revenue. We have to develop a larger commercial tax base to ease the burden on homeowners. Prince George’s County officials are too focused on the AAA+ credit rating, which has only served to get us deeper in debt. We can no longer afford to run the local government like some run their household finances. We must become fiscally responsible, more transparent, and more accountable in our government operations. I bring almost three decades of experience as a federal banking regulator, litigator, veteran, advisor, and entrepreneur, along with life experience as a wife, PGCPS mother, former substitute teacher, and community member to this race. The other declared candidates have all played a part in the current condition of Prince George’s County. It’s time to stop the insanity and political "musical chairs." I understand the needs of Prince George’s County, because I AM PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY! For more information, go to https://tonyasweat.com.
