Life in the New World Order. Face Masks are a Must when out in Public. This means shopping, taking public transportation, walking too. Moving forward, we all need to keep in mind how our health impacts those around us. Hugs and handshakes are quickly becoming greetings of the past. Hand sanitizer, gloves, and face masks are valued commodities.

As The Beltsville News goes to press, I just found out that Evelyn Adkins, our former treasurer, has been diagnosed with COVID-19. She is 94 years old. Please pray for Evelyn Adkins.

Our May meeting has been canceled. Schools and MNCPPC facilities are still closed. I will share community updates on The Beltsville News website and Facebook page plus Nextdoor.com.

If you have not signed up for Nextdoor.com, I strongly encourage you to do so. Several county and state agencies are sharing valuable information almost on a daily basis. Go to Nextdoor.com, enter your street address, and the site will guide you to “your neighborhood.”

The Maryland Health Connection has extended the COVID-19 Special Enrollment Period to June 15 for uninsured Marylanders who need health coverage. In this crisis it is essential that uninsured Marylanders get coverage so that they can get the care they need—for their safety, and for all of us.

Visit MarylandHealthConnection.gov or download the free “Enroll MHC” mobile app. Request or select “Coronavirus Emergency Special Enrollment Period.” Free help is available by calling 1.855.642.8572 from 8 am–6 pm on weekdays.

The deadline has also been extended to July 15 for uninsured tax filers to take advantage of the Easy Enrollment Program by checking the box on their state tax returns to find out their eligibility for free or low-cost health insurance. Already Marylanders from over 40,000 households have checked the box.

If you have Prince George's County Library materials during closure do not leave materials outside at libraries. Hold onto books, DVDs, and other materials until PGCMLS reopens. All fines incurred during the closure will be waived.

We encourage you to use the Library Digital Suite! All PGCMLS card holders have instant access to eBooks, audiobooks, digital comics, video and music. Visit https://www.pgcmls.info/digital-suite to learn more.

Last but not least….Support our local restaurants. If you have a community concern, I can be reached at 301.937.3490 or karenmcoakley@msn.com if you would like to be added to the Beltsville Citizen’s Association email list.
