Calverton Neighborhood's Birthday and 4th of July Celebration

Calverton's annual 4th of July event is additionally celebrating the neighborhood's 55th birthday! Festivities will be Thursday, July 4, from 10:30 am–1:30 pm at Calverton Park (adjacent to Calverton Elementary at 3400 Beltsville Rd). Come enjoy great food, games, face painting, live music, children’s entertainment, performers, and much more. Admission is free!

And then Thursday evening, July 4, head to College Park for a free concert and fireworks at the University of Maryland in Lot 1 adjacent to Campus Drive off Adelphi Road. Concessions open at 5 pm, the concert begins at 7 pm, and the fireworks will begin at dusk (approx. 9 pm). Be sure to arrive early if you can because heavy traffic is expected to begin around 7:30 pm.

Reminder: Senate Scholarship Application Deadline—Friday, July 12

To apply online for a 2018–2019 senate scholarship, students should visit www.senatorjimrosapepe.com/scholarships, and the deadline to apply is Friday, July 12. The application period has ended for a separate delegate scholarship from Delegates Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, and Mary Lehman, but look to apply early next year. Information on other financial aid for Maryland college students can be found at www.mhec.state.md.us.

Join the Delegates and Me August 6th at the Beltsville Police Station

The delegates and I, along with Council Member Tom Dernoga, hope to see you Tuesday night, August 6, 6–8 pm, for the annual National Night Out. It will be held at the police station at Sellman and Montgomery Roads. Everything is free, including food, drinks, and fun activities for families. It's a great opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the police department and the community, see friends and neighbors, and display Beltsville's commitment to keep crime out of our neighborhoods.
