Obituary: Judy Lane Fimiani Slarb


Judy Lane Fimiani Slarb passed away peacefully on April 30, 2019, at the age of 78. Judy is survived by her daughter, Sandra Johnson of Duluth, MN; son, Ronald Fimiani (Jennifer) of York, PA; 4 grandsons, Benjamin and Jacob Johnson, Luca and Lance Fimiani; sister, Sylvia Hayward (Milton) of Edgewater, MD; nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends in MD and DE. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Joseph Fimiani, Jr.; husband and soulmate, Kenneth Slarb; daughter, Julie Fimiani; and brother, Dennis Lane.

Judy was born May 20, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, to Mack and Hazel Lane. She graduated in 1957 from North Harford High School in Pylesville, MD, and later received her degree in business administration with a minor in personnel management from George Washington University in 1961. She worked as the office manager at Holland Gardens in Beltsville, MD, for many years as well as for Capital Broadcast News in Washington, DC. Judy was also a property manager assistant at Providence Hospital in DC. In the more recent past, Judy worked as a substitute teacher in Howard County, MD, for 20 years.

Being very active in the community, Judy volunteered for multiple organizations including the College Park United Methodist Women (a past president); the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in College Park, MD, and Laurel, DE; and served as the director of the championship K-Company Majorette, Color Guard, and Drum Corps in Beltsville, MD, for over 10 years. She was also a member of the Ruth Circle at her church, the Widows Club in Laurel, MD, and Laurel, DE; NARF; and the Red Hat Ladies in Laurel, DE.

Judy loved music, dance, and theatre. However, her biggest passion was animals, especially her cats!

Visitation was held at 2 pm followed by a memorial service at 3 pm on Sunday, May 19 at the College Park United Methodist Church, 9601 Rhode Island Avenue, College Park, MD. The internment was conducted at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Worcester County Humane Society, PO Box 48, Berlin, MD 21811 or the College Park United Methodist Church (address above).
