The "Bull Pen" March 2019

What a difference 30 years makes in the 1988 Beltsville Bulls cheerleaders and today’s cheerleaders!

Thirty years ago, for one season, I was a cheerleader for the Beltsville-Adelphi Boys and Girls Club, and yes, I am in the picture from 1988. While cheerleading didn’t turn out to be my talent or passion, I still remember the fun time I had. I remember the cheers like it was yesterday because I know “Who rocks the house?” “The bulls rock the house, and when the bulls rock the house, they rock it all the way down!” Today’s cheerleading squad is Facebook famous, with Ahnah Atkinson even being featured on NBC’s Today show for her amazing and spirited dance performance at the Beltsville Bulls 2018 football homecoming. While fashion, hairstyles, technology, and other things may have changed, one thing that hasn’t is the long-lasting memories that can be made by participating in cheerleading and sports in general.

So, come out and show spirit and cheer for our teams. Come, join the stampede! Register now for ages 4-16 and help us expand our teams. We are also looking for coaches and volunteers. Let’s start this cheer season off right. For more information, contact Cheerleading Commissioner Dana Coleman at 240.354.8707 or danacole817@gmail.com. You can also visit the Bull’s website at http://beltsvilleadelphi.siplay.com/site/.

March Madness is alive and well with the Bull’s basketball teams working hard to bring home more championship titles. The regular season ends March 10, and playoffs begin March 16. Final results will be shared in the April edition of “The Bull Pen.”

Do you know what happens on March 20? The vernal equinox kicks off the first official day of spring. This also means the spring sports season is just around the corner. Practices will begin the last week of March or the first week of April, weather permitting. Spring registration is currently open. The season consists of flag football, t-ball, baseball, and soccer. For more information, please visit http://beltsvilleadelphi.siplay.com/site/ and stay tuned for more information on the spring sports season in the April edition of “The Bull Pen”!

If you would like to make a monetary donation (no amount is too small), checks can be made out to the Beltsville-Adelphi Boys and Girls Club and mailed to 11705 Roby Ave, Beltsville, MD 20705. This is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible.

The club is looking for a few good men or women to help coach baseball and soccer, if interested, please contact Club Athletic Director Rian Jackson at jackson_rian@hotmail.com or 301.693.6395. Finally, questions, suggestions, and coaching inquiries are always welcome!
