Since so many elections here are effectively decided in the primary, sometimes people forget to vote in the general election. Please don't forget! The polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.

Candidates have significant differences on issues from school construction funding in Prince George's to investing in the University of Maryland. I hope you will educate yourself about the candidates and come out and vote.

Health insurance deadline: December 15

Delegates Barbara Frush, Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Ben Barnes, and I want to be sure all working families are able to sign up for affordable health insurance. Despite all the proposals in Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it’s still in effect. Now -- through December 15 -- is the time to learn about coverage -- and other ways to save money on health insurance.

Open enrollment runs from November 1 to December 15. Be sure to enroll or change plans by visiting www.marylandhealthconnection.gov or call toll-free 1-855-642-8572.

Free Flu Shots for County Residents

Every year the Prince George’s Health Department offers free flu vaccination clinics for County residents available to anyone age 6 months and older. No appointment is necessary; the walk-in clinic is open Monday-Friday (while supplies last) from 9am-3pm at Cheverly Health Center (3003 Hospital Drive, Suite 2082, Cheverly, MD 20785).

College and Career Fair -- Nov. 9 in Laurel

Beltsville's County Council Member, Mary Lehman, is hosting a College and Career Fair on Friday, November 9. Students will be able to meet college recruiters from all over the country as well as explore opportunities for apprenticeships. The free event will be 6:30-8:00 PM at Laurel High School (8000 Cherry Lane). Students should wear business casual attire.
